On June 8, 2019, a ceremony was held at McDonough Park recognizing Ellie Mommessin, Girl Scout Troop #1063, on the new Pollinator Garden and a Bat House at Lake Betsy. Mommessin came up with the idea for the two projects to help complete her Girl Scout Gold Award. The Gold Award is similar to the Eagle Project done by the Boy Scouts. Ellie’s project has been in the making for almost a year. Ellie, a junior, has spent countless hours doing extensive research and putting together the Pollinator Garden and Bat House. Ellie worked alongside her mom and friends for the completion of her project. The Pollinator Garden is near the walking path at McDonough Park and the Bat House is located on the southside of Lake Betsy.
